Kamloops Lake from Viewpoint
Kamloops Lake sits just west of Kamloops on the Thompson River. These photos were taken from a roadside viewpoint just west of the Tobiano Resort on Hwy 1.

Mara Hill Rock Formations
Mara Hill can be found to the north from Traquille Road on the west of Kamloops. The Mara trail in Lac du Bois Provincial Park starts near this point and offers many interesting geologic formations including hoodos. I had little time to photograph this area, still intending on going home via the Fraser Canyon at the time, so I moved on. While walking up to the railway tracks to take a few pictures I noticed a snake coiled on a rock. Didn’t think too much of it at the time, its just a snake right? Apparently, and I don’t know why my sleep deprived mind didn’t realize this at the time… rattlesnakes are common in the area. I do wish I had a picture of it though.
Tranquille near Kamloops Lake
In the first panorama you can see the abandoned Tranquille Sanatorium in the distance. The second panorama (with a wider lens) is from the same vantage point on Tranquille Road just outside Lac du Bois Provincial Park near Kamloops, BC. Just beyond the flooded field in the foreground lies Kamloops Lake.

Not sure what species, but there seems to be a lot of lichen on this rock. Really wish I’d had a tripod handy… was really windy here and evidently my 100mm macro lens did not feel like sitting still that much (many discarded shots of this lichen).

Layer Cake Mountain – Kelowna, BC
A view of Layer Cake Mountain on Hwy 33 approximately 13km east of downtown Kelowna. The name Layer Cake Mountain comes from the layered appearance of the rocks, though that was barely visible from my vantage point on Hwy 33.
