A Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum pedatum) clings to the side a the cliff above the Muddy Fork of the Cowlitz River in Mount Rainier National Park.

Cowlitz Box Canyon – Mount Rainier NP

In Mt. Rainier National Park the Muddy Fork of the Cowlitz River has cut through the rock to a depth of 200 feet in places to form Cowlitz Box Canyon. Peering over the bridge into the depths is not for the acrophobic.
